No, we don't typically fish for shark, (unless that's
what the customer wants!), but we certainly can catch `em when the mood
strikes us! (See picture below.) The
name "Lone Shark" came about as a play on words due to the
fact that I used to own a pawn shop! Everyone thought the transition from "loan shark"
to "Lone Shark" was cute and catchy, so it stuck!
When I originally got into the pawn business,
(years ago), I was already an avid fisherman and knew quite a bit about fishing, boating and scuba equipment.
So naturally, I started doing all the business I could with that kind of
equipment.
Doing so allowed me to
meet a sizable number of other avid local fisherman, (including other
charter captains), over the years. Eventually fishing buddies,
friends and family started asking why, with my love and knowledge of
fishing, boating, and the local waters, I didn't become a charter
captain myself. And since that would give me a perfect excuse to
spend more time on the water, it made sense to me!
So I started Lone Shark Charters with my 23 foot Dorado coastal
fishing boat. That was fine for a time, and while I had no qualms
about taking it well off-shore myself, (and had done so LOTS of times!),
I knew that clients would be more comfortable and feel more secure in a
larger vessel. So I subsequently purchased the Mako 29 and
outfitted her for maximum off-shore usability. (The equipment list
and plenty of pics are available on the "Captains & Equipment" page.)
But that left me with a fully equipped fishing vessel for each foot,
something my wife pointed out I obviously didn't need. And
although my ten year old son Max insisted it would be perfectly alright
to just give the Dorado to him, I decided to hire another top-notch
captain for her instead. That's been several years ago now, and
Captain Terrylee has built up quite a following of his own for the
Dorado's in-shore and near-shore trips. Read more about both of us
on the "Captains & Equipment" page as well.
So there you have it! The whole saga of
Lone Shark Charters. Now two vessels, two captains, and based out
of a pawn shop that even sells fresh frozen bait! Stop by and swap
a fish story with us one day! Capt. Bob |
